Q: Why is interval training so much more effective than regular steady state cardio?

CB:
Many reasons. But specfically, we choose quality over quantity.

It’s at least 200% more efficient, if not more. You can get the same or better fitness and weight loss improvements in half the time.

 It builds real-world fitness. How many times each week do you do a 20-second stair climb? Compare that to how many times you run 30 minutes continuously (not including training)? The fact is life activities are short bursts of intensity, not long, slow bouts of continuous activity.

The same can be said for most sports. So it quickly becomes clear which training method is better.

 Intervals build anaerobic and aerobic fitness. Cardio builds only aerobic fitness. Bodybuilding thru Intervals builds lean muscle. Put a typical marathon runner on the basketball court and he’ll get beaten every time because he doesn’t have sport-specific fitness. The health benefits of interval training are the same as you get from traditional cardio training. But again, the workouts are shorter.

Scientists are wrong when they tell you that you can't build muscle and lose fat at the same time. In fact, there's even a research study to prove them wrong! The good news is that even men and women over the age of 60 can build muscle and lose fat at the same time.

Craig first discovered it was possible to gain muscle and burn fat simultaneously through his own personal workouts in his early twenties. Craig found the key factor

in allowing him to build muscle while losing body fat was to focus on fat loss nutrition (i.e. reduced sugar, increased fiber, and more whole, natural foods) while increasing the intensity of his workouts (i.e. heavier resistance training and more interval training).
